Plot
Shopclerk is a befuddled amnesiac who runs a magical gift shop, he wakes up every morning screaming. One day a strange woman, who may or may not know his true identity, walks into the shop and announces she'll be staying with him.
Background
The world of Adorable Desolation is world were magic works. A small percentage of the population has the ability to sense "Mana"[1] Most mana users can't manipulate mana in any meaningful way, they simply channel small "gifts" such as telepathy [2], empathy [3], detecting lines of force [4] and precognition [5]. occasionally a magician class manipulator comes along. Ordinarily they spontaneously combust [6] the first time a difficult spell [7] is tried. If a magician survives they are bound to become a true celebrity- rich and famous! [8].
Rules of magic use
- There is a direct and observable correlation between magical potential and a tendency towards megalomaniacal ideation and ultimately to full blown insanity
- There doesn't seem to be any known genetic component to magical potential. Two powerful magicians appear to have the same odds of having magic using offspring as two non-magic users, seemingly random chance.
- Regarding Self immolation, this is a sure sign a spell has gone wrong.
- Regarding Spontaneously combusting, yet again a pretty good indication that spellcasting is not for you.
