Background

Thousands of years ago, Aura battled the Forest and its inhabitants over matters long since forgotten. Many lives were lost, and eventually the Forest's denizens prepared to launch a massive attack, one that would wipe the Auron scourge from their lands. Panicking, the Auron preserved themselves by building the Wall, an immense structure of brick, mortar, blood and flesh that spanned the continent. The Forest was sealed away, and Aura placed two cities at the edge of the Wall to forever watch for signs of another attack.

Now, Aura is a restless country. Wars rage between greedy provinces, fueled by famine, pestilence and the bored nobility. Treaties are made and broken constantly between these royal families, whose only (tenous at best) allegiance lies to their Emperor in the south. In Mira, the city that guards the South Gate of the Wall (installed carefully after an enormous earthquake tore down the thin path that connected southern Aura to the otherwise isolated northern Aura, the only time in the past five hundred years the provinces have agreed on something), the Crown Princess prepares for her wedding to the prince of a neighboring province...
