An almost-autobiographical daily comic strip about me and the weird stuff that happens at the comic shop I work at - Kastle Comics.

Summary

Here's the low-down on Kastle Comics. It's a comic strip I started just for kicks based fairly closely on the comic book shop I work at and the stuff that goes down there. It gets pretty crazy sometimes, and I figured a few people would get a little chuckle out of a comic strip. I was just doing it for my own entertainment until my manager, Stan, got a hold of it. He told me to put it online because it was hilarious and all that jazz. So, what could I do but listen to my boss, right? I still question whether I really am funny or not, but as long as people at work and at home keep telling me to run it online, I'll continue to do so.

Characters

Sarah White: That's me! I'm the main character, of course. Most of the stories are told from my perspective. I love reading comics and fantasy novels, drawing, and playing video games. Mostly RPGs and figure-em-outs.

Wess: My co-worker in crime. He's kinda creepy, listens to punk rock music, and has a band of his own. I think they're called Steel City Crime last I checked.

Stan: The owner of the store, and my Ultimate Boss. He's a huge Disney and Star Wars freak, and never takes off his Mickey Ears hat.

Jason: Stan's business partner, and half-owner of Kastle Comics. He's not the nicest guy in town, but he's forgotten more about comics than any of the rest of us will ever know.

Trevor Jones: This scruffy guy is my editor and the love of my life. He makes sure the strips are remotely funny and keeps my pillow warm at night. That's about all he's good for.

Darwin: Full name - Darwin the Atheist Puppet. He's an old Bible-teaching puppet Wess found in an abandoned middle school. He since then acquired a cape and bandana.

Background

Kastle Comics is mostly based on the comic shop I work at, called Kingdom Comics. The characters in the comic are all real people, but their personalities have been exaggerated. Comic Jason is much meaner than Real Jason is. Comic Stan is more Disney-obsessed than Real Stan (though not by much). Stuff like that. Originally, I was going to change the characters' names to protect the (mostly) innocent, but after Stan sneaked a peak at my comic, he told me to keep the names the same so he could put some up on the Kingdom Comics website too.

The strips are all done in black and white on Strathmore Drawing Paper at 11"x14". I draw with a .7 mechanical pencil, and then use any number of pens to ink it. I've experimented with Microns, Faber Castell, and a few different calligraphy pens, technical pens, and dip pens. I do most of the drawing for the comic strip while I'm at work, which I think is a horribly appropriate place to draw it. But because I do it at work, I don't use the dip pens much, because they're messy. I want to get better with those, but it's something that needs to be done at home, not at work.

I realize that this strip may not be the greatest thing under the sun. I'm just doing it for fun and jelly beans. I'm not trying too hard to be funny or clever, just drawing things I like to draw. The artwork fluctuates randomly because I like experimenting with different supplies. And the strips may not be technically superior, because this is the first comic strip I've ever done. I'm not doing it for any other purpose than because I like to. 'Tis all.
