Plot

The Grand Evacuation of Mankind (some would insist the capital letters are necessary, and this editor does not wish to offend) did not work out quite as planned. With one half of humanity deposited, political structure and all, on the planet of Essen, the other half - not quite as well defined, not quite as well-led - found themselves in harsher climates on the planet known as Zwarn.

Flash-forward a few dozen centuries, and you've got a borough as rotten as.. well, whatever a borough is. Hooligan Tuesday has just cut loose from her former employers, the powerful Spinoza family, and moved on to more independent pastures. Stephen O'Clery, accomplished liar and mediocre pickpocket, is just trying to make a living in a territory none too friendly to the Irish.

On one particularly drunken afternoon, one flees into a pub where the other is drowning their sorrows into a bottle of something particularly noxious.

World, meet train wreck.

Characters

Main characters

ID Character Appearance Bio/description
image:hooliganid.jpg Hooligan Tuesday Dark-haired Zwarnian of assorted descent Once a major Spinoza operative, Hooligan Tuesday has struck out for herself in the independent city of Mainte. However, her none-too-friendly disposition and general mockery of all things good and decent in this world haven't made her appealing to possible employees, and as such, she finds herself increasingly desperate as she watches jobs slipping through her fingers.

Hooligan is the best mercenary in Maintè by a long shot, and she likes it that way. In Zwarnian, the word 'challenge' is the same as the word for 'suicide' - and she totally goes with that. It never gets boring being on top, even if your last two demolitions guys ran off 'cause they hated you and wanted get married. To each other.

image:stephen.jpg Stephen O'Clery Dark-haired Irishman This pint-sized Irishman appears to have been in the employ of many a wannabe crime magnate before vanishing into space for over ten years. He dropped his previous occupation as a leading demolitions expert in order to pursue a relaxing freelance position as pickpocket in the city of Mainte. Stephen appears to be easily overwhelmed, though he is generally considered a far more than tolerable presence to be around.

Control freak extraordinaire and prone to excessive bouts of passive-aggressive nervousness, Stephen is not your first choice for an action hero. This is why he lets Hooligan take care of all the shooty business.

Supporting characters

ID Character Appearance Bio/description
TBA Toren 't Hek Dark-haired Thermopylaean of European descent Born on the asteroid colonies of Thermopylae, Toren's behaviour is considered eccentric at best by his peers. His behaviour, however, is highly adaptable, and he enjoys juggling with impressions. (More as the Sailing Thousands storyline unfolds)
TBA Averiy 'Arrow' Abolmasov Dark-haired Zwarnian of Afro-Russian descent Arrow is Toren's long-suffering best friend. Though he was born on Zwarn in Ivankov territory, he quickly took to the stars, becoming one of few Zwarnians to assimilate into Thermopylaean culture so well that he speaks the language. (More as the Sailing Thousands storyline unfolds)

Minor characters

Character Appearance Bio/description
The Barkeeper Blonde Floater child Her mother was a Floater: the final generation of an evacuation ship that became a generational ship when the stasis cells gave out. She was raised under different conditions than most Zwarnians, facing a mother whose ideas more closely mirrored Earth ideals. This backfired in a spectacular way when the Barkeeper became a teenager and began establishing entirely different opinions about the nature of the world. The Barkeeper can often be found arguing loudly with the woman when she should be selling people stuff that makes their brains explode with delight.
Fred Tradesman Brown-haired Zwarnian mutt of Italian descent Fred had his legs replaced by oversized bionics after a trade dispute went awry. He works as a bouncer at the Mainte Savon Pub, where he plays the quiet strong man to the Barkeeper's loud-mouthed amateur pub pundit.
Gorgeous George Bald Zwarnian mutt of assorted descent Gorgeous George gained his nickname in his teenage years by virtue of the girl he was dating at the time. The name, however, became increasingly ironic as an attempt to fix the damage gained from several misadventures turned him into somewhat of a monstrosity. George now runs Mainte's finest demolitions establishment, though he is not adverse to selling anything that could remotely be panderable.
