CHAPTER XII - The House of Nan
Contents |
The Tale
The Waxing Moon Mage Remmil and his barbarian companion Oc, the Barbarian, join young amazon Idana in a quest for the girl's father, the famous mage Saru Pnit.
Tales Long Since Forgotten
Magics & Barbarics started as The Tome of Edmund, which has ended couple of years ago. These strips may probably be published in English in the future, but it might be a while before that happens since the author intends to translate them only after he finishes the translation of those available in the original website. These are the main happenings of that story:
- Chapter I: "The Tome of Edmund"
Tired of being unrespected in the village he was designed to protect, Remmil finds out about this extraordinary magic book, the Tome of Edmund, which could grant him amazing powers. While leaving the village to pursue it, he meets Oc the Barbarian, which agrees to help him in his task in exchange of Remmil's Shakespeare Collection.
- Chapter II: "The Mountains of Supreme Agony"
The quest leads the mage and the barbarian in a path through the deadly Mountains of Supreme Agony. In their way, they realize everything that happens in the Mountains take place for a reason... an evil mind trapped inside the rocky walls.
- Chapter III: "Urba's Umbrella"
During a storm, a mysterious stranger sells Oc a cursed Umbrella. Turns out this is the legendary Urba's Umbrella, and it must return to its mistress hands. A door is cracked, a Waning Moon witch reveals herself, a magic duel takes place and finally someone get laid. And it's not Remmil.
- Chapter IV: "The Insect and the Flower"
Our heroes (?!?) travels east and face Blue Dragon, an eastern Crime Lord. With the help of a revengeful fighter, they defeat the enemy and finally find out where is the Tome.
- Chapter V: "The Alav Cave"
A cave filled with traps and dangers hides within the secret we were all looking forward to unreveal. Truth is it's not what Remmil and Oc were expecting, and the mage ends up without his hat. Which take us to...
The Chapters
Chapter VI: "The Order of the Moon" March 04 2007 - April 30 2007Remmil must go to the Order of the Moon to find himself a new hat, so he can get his magic powers back. Meanwhile, Oc goes to town and meets an old Remmil's acquaintance.
The protagonists must walk through the woods, where they meet some frightening women. But a rebel amongst them may be able to help.
A flashback. No, wait a second, two flashbacks! Better yet, it's a flashback IN the flashback! All this to tell the story of Saru Pnit, one of the world's most famous and charming mages. And he's Idana's father, by the way.
Idana joins Remmil and Oc in a quest to find her father Saru Pnit. But who cares, it's got pirates!
Remmil and Idana and Oc arrives at Somac, the ever raining city that has never seen the sun. Never, until now. The Rain Stick is stolen and it's up to our heroes to retrieve it and "save" the city.
Our trio is on their way North, through a very, very weird path.

The history of Magics & Barbarics in just a few words
This comic first started some years ago in a blog, by the name of "O Tomo de Edmund" (Portuguese for "The Tome of Edmund"). After the first five arcs, the comic changed to today's "Magics and Barbarics". It's been published in Portuguese for some years now, on the website www.magiasebarbaridades.com, but just now I could manage to translate it and publish via Comicgenesis.
Trivia
- In places south of the Equator, the moon phases the other way around. Thus, the moons in the mages' hats must be backwards for those who lives in the northern hemisphere.
