Comic:ODCKS
From CGWiki
You're probably asking yourself "What the...this is a comic? Seriously?" If so, we're proud. We at ODCKS strive to bring the world comics which are odd, obscure, and any other word (starting with 'o') pertaining to the strange or completely pointless.
If you got here somehow, but have no idea what is going on, feel free to take a look at the comic here.
All of the art is done by hand using stain inks then scanned and edited in Photoshop 7. Despite the sketchy quality of the artwork, progress is always being reached for by the artist and can (hopefully) be seen as you progress through both the art of this comic and his other works.
Although there is a comic for every day, the website is not always updated daily. Due to the school and work schedule of the artist, comics are uploaded when they can be, and we are gracious that our readers hang in there with us.
Creators
Draco Aleksander is the artist and main writer of the comic. Born in Miami, he has been a Florida resident all his life and has a strong hatred of anything under 80 degrees Fahrenheit. He currently works at Hancock Fabrics, located in Lakeland, Florida. He is currently a student at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida and is working on getting his associates degree in Theater Performance, at which time he will transfer to the University of Central Florida to continue his education. His many nicknames include Daedalus, Archangel/Arch, Bones, Walter, or just about anything someone feels like calling him. His animal affinity is the feline, thus his most common nickname is Kitty. His DeviantArt page is available here.
Osiris Drakanos is Draco's best friend and co-writer of the comic strip. Originally from Suffern, New York, he moved to Florida in 1993 and is practically a polar bear. Currently he is a student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida and is working to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Stage Management, while pursuing a career as a Master Electrician. His animal affinity is the Bear/Moose Dragon; he's odd, give him a break. His DeviantArt page is available here.
History
ODCKS started early in 2006 as a forum website between three friends centered around a kharma system similar to the one used by the website Red vs. Blue at the time. It was a passing thing that only lasted a few months, but the acronym stuck with the group for quite a while.
Eventually the group split up, but Draco and Osiris (two of the three) ended up in a summer stock production of the musical The Wizard of Oz. In the slightly dingy men's dressing room of Theater Winter Haven, the first ODCKS comics were created between scenes. These comics of yore were in an entirely different style than those of the current series; they still stared mainly Draco and Osiris, but featured the two in a more human form, and were all single-panel. These comics are still available on Draco's DeviantArt page.
Eventually the then-weekly comic petered out, but in September of 2007, a little more than a year later, ComicGenesis granted ODCKS a new home at their current URL. Since then, the comic has been posting on a (mostly) daily basis despite the occasional "non-comic" that acts as filler.
Comic 200 was published on March 22nd, 2008.
Characters
Most of the characters in the comic are based on the friends and loved ones of Draco or Osiris.
- Draco: A vampire-loving, game-playing, hippy. To understand this seemingly complicated mash of ideals, you actually only need to hear him talk for a strip or two. He also has an almost unhealthy obsession with cute and/or fluffy things.
- Osiris: This guy is a little hairier than some, but is definitely lovable despite only being able to attract the occasional affections of Byte. Often the foil of punchlines, Draco would none-the-less be at a loss without him.
- April: A wily female with glasses and pig-tails. Often solves problems which the male characters are too stubborn to fix, but does so with a sharp tongue. Ex-owner of Zombie and owner of Pollywog.
- Brina: A slightly gothic girl whose satirical outlook on life can bring interesting comedy into a situation. She enjoys teasing and messing with everyone else in the series and 'owns' (or more properly, feeds on a regular basis) Byte.
- Bun: Popped out of a giant Easter egg one day. Easily scared and most often simply comments on a situation by going "EEK!"
- Candy: A fox anthro who is generally cool. Although he loves yaoi, he also likes to hang around Bun a lot. Is there something we're missing?
- Panda: An Asian lady who can always be found carrying a large bit of bamboo. Although she is pretty tough, she can be embarrassed quite easily. Not a good idea to do so however, since her bamboo chute often conceals a bazooka.
- Necro: A nice looking redhead who goes Medusa when irritated. Don't say 'amazing' within earshot or face her wrath.
- David: Originally named Daniel. It changed one day. He's bald and generally featureless except for the fact that he is one of the few characters who always has a mouth.
- Jorb: The Artist/Character mediator. He keeps the Artist from doing anything terrible to the characters while keeping the characters in line through odd punishments.
- Synoc: Like an unusually quick sloth, a lazy man who has a fast wit. That might also explain the green hair.
- The Doom: A being of darkness who, while cheery and a happy-go-lucky person, tends to accidentally cause catastrophe.
- Cass: A small, Ireland obsessed lady. She is sweet, but randomly...random.
- Zombie: Not quite a pet, but certainly not alive, Zombie was last seen crying over his abandonment for the much cuter and less brain-hungry Pollywog. Pretty much a standard undead cadaver, but causes some odd things at times.
- Byte: A digital creature who came out of the Ethernet cable one day. Although she eats bandwidth for sustenance, she tends to chew on just about anything, especially if she takes a fancy to it (Osiris in particular). She can generally be found near Brina or Osiris.
- Pollywog: A smush of goo that floats for some reason and has two eyes and two arms. It has a hard time not obeying its new master, April, because it lacks muscles of any sort and is usually prey to the will of the wind anyway.
- Mutant Brain: A super-powered mutant brain that only shows up occasionally. Will it play a bigger part in the future? Will it simply sit in the archives and fade away?!? Only time will tell.
