Setting

Online Offcenter is a high school romantic manga with a twist. The two main characters not only interact in the real world setting of John F. Kennedy High School but also in the popular online world of Hero's Quest.

The Story

Jenny is a plain, quiet, and socially awkward high school sophomore who's only joy in life is when she can escape into the online world of Hero's Quest, a fantasy MMORPG that she's been playing for a year. She's spent most of her summer holed up in her room and logged into the game as her character Kaeli and her online partner Jushiro have struggled to win a server-wide competition that heralded the game's one-year anniversary. Only Jenny didn't really believe that they'd win the competition... so when they do, she finds herself at a crossroads. Does she go forward and compete in the nationwide competition or will her courage fail her and will she retreat back into a life of anonymity? And just who is Jushiro anyway?

Creators

MOO is a collaboration of four friends who met online. Kori, Ishi, Ame, and Omi all met while playing online games, so it's only natural that they should create a manga about their experiences online.

Cast

Jenny Brown

Jenny is a socially awkward high school sophomore who prefers the company of invisible online friends to that of the girls in her class. Shy, quiet, and bookish, she lacks the confidence that her older sister Vivian possesses in abundance. Only when she logs on as Kaeli does she assert herself and reveal her true personality.

Kaeli

Kaeli is Jenny’s alter ego and the persona that she hides while out in the ‘real world.’ Kaeli is bold where Jenny is shy, outspoken where Jenny is quiet. Somewhat violent, Kaeli is the release of all the pent-up emotions that Jenny’s been unable to let out in the course of her day. But for all her brashness, Kaeli is a very good friend and has a soft-spot for her bumbling partner, Jushiro.
