School Spirit

In a little rural community nestled somewhere deep in south-eastern Australia there stands a little primary school. Sharing a seven-strand wire fence is the local cemetery, a quiet, peaceful place to spend a sunny Australian afternoon. It is in these locations that young Casper, Cody and their friends share their childhood adventures and learn life's important lessons.

It doesn't take the boys long to realise that the cemetery is not as empty as it first appears. The spirits still go about their daily business, and Wendy in particular has taken a fancy to the young boys. Convincing their friends Grace and Brylcreem of the existence of these invisible nobodies is harder than they thought, as it appears that they are the only two who can see them.

Adding to Casper's daily concerns is the fact that Chastity, the schoolyard beauty, and her two friends Liberty and Pandora, are too caught up in their own world to even notice his existance. That and the fact that he's too gutless to speak to her face to face if he got the chance anyway.

What's a poor young bloke to do?

School Spirit is a webcomic about the little adventures of the little people of the world, where the biggest and most exciting thing that could possibly happen is finding a real skull in the cemetery for show and tell the next day. Deeply influenced by its Australian background and location, School Spirit is a light-hearted, innocent and spirited little view on life as seen through the eyes of a gaggle of Australian kids. It aims to show that the world, at least your own little part of it, is not really all that bad a place to be.

Remember when your imagination was real? When the day seemed longer than it was, and tomorrow was always another game away? Remember when you were a kid and the world held magic the grownups never knew...

Characters

Casper: A quiet kid, Casper is curious about the world around him but not reckless, and tends to be missed in a crowd of more than three. He is fast friends with Cody, and the two are often to be found getting into mischief. The unassuming hero of School Spirit.

Cody: Casper's self-appointed best friend. Cheeky, curious and excitable, Cody is easily influenced and easily distracted. He's a rough diamond with a heart of gold. The swashbuckling foil to Casper's more cautious approach to life.

Grace: Rough around the edges, Grace could probably handle herself competently in any school yard brawl. She'd be called a tomboy if she didn't belt anyone who tried. She is Cody's moderating influence, if that could be thought a good thing.

Brylcreem: Short, thin, glasses and a complexion that makes a sheet of paper look suntanned, Brylcreem is named for his habit of slicking his hair into place. Clever and a hard worker, he always strives for the best. This has earned him the distrust of Cody.

Wendy: A girl of about twelve, Wendy is one of the spirits in the cemetery next door to the school. Cheeky and fun loving, she seems to have attached herself to the two boys. The Spirit of School Spirit.

Miss Conway: The kids' teacher, Miss Conway can control the room with only a gesture and rarely loses her cool. Admired by half of the grade and cautiously adored by the rest. In a battle of wills, the best you could hope for would be a gallant defeat.

Chastity, Pandora and Liberty: The elite of the school ground. Chastity is supreme in her position amongst the children, and dark haired Pandora and light haired Liberty are her doting disciples. The activities of the general schoolyard kids is far too beneath their noses to be interest to them.

Mavis: The bus driver. The terror of the bus kids. Built like a brick dunny, there is a rumour she either drives demolition derby at night, or doubles as a hydraulic jack in a truck repair shop. Feared by all, except Miss Conway.
