In early March 2006, Spritescape Fantasy departed Comicgenesis and moved to paid webhosting with its own domain name, following the suit of many CG webcomics that outgrow its nest.

About

Spritescape Fantasy is a sprite-based webcomic of the fantasy/adventure genre set in a RPG-like world. The story follows the adventures of a party of travelling companions as they set out to discover their own enigmatic destiny. Swords and magic, dungeons and monsters, friendship and romance... and more await in this light-hearted fantasy tale.

The Author and How it came to be

Daniel J. Lee, who goes by the alias Spritescaper in the webcomic community, began experimenting with RPG Maker approximately 3 years ago, a popular software program used to create full-fledged RPGs. It wasn't until much later that he invested interest in the sprite comic field, a popular genre of webcomics dominated by popular gems such as 8-Bit Theater and Bob and George.

Spritescape Fantasy was officially launched early February 2005, and was re-launched later that same year with improved visuals and writing. RPG Maker was certainly a notable influence, as the comic utilized custom RPG Maker sprites, and backgrounds built using the default chipset engine.

Since then, the author has introduced over 30+ episodes, and the webcomic has developed a small but loyal fanbase community.

Characters

Rook: A roguish Druid cloaked in green, Rook is highly sarcastic, severely careless, and hopelessly reckless.. much to the dismay of his travelling companions. It seems that through no fault of his own, trouble follows him wherever he goes. Beneath all the distinctive flaws and his overly silly personality lies a smart young human who's far more gifted than most people tend to give him credit for. Motivated only by his unbending desire for adventure, Rook sets out on each new adventure with an iron will and a sense of childish eagerness that others find hard to resist.

Valor: A valiant Knight determined to seek out evil and destroy it wherever it may lie, Valor fully lives up to his name. He is truly fearless, never panicking even in the face of the greatest of dangers. His personality can best be described as monotonous, and he very rarely laughs or smiles. He possesses extensive leadership skills, and it is usually he who steers the party back on track whenever they fall off course. Quick to anger but also quick to sympathize, he would place his own life on the line to ensure the safety of both his friends and the innocent alike.

Kira: Kira is a cute and lovable Nymph who first met Rook and Valor when the pair rescued her from a gang of Orcs. She is bright, cheerful, and easy to please, and very rarely expresses feelings of hate or anger. Having been raised in a reclusive forest setting, the Nymph lacks worldly experiences and thus has a tendency to be somewhat naive and ignorant of the world around her. It is clear that she has much to learn, and what lies in her near future is still uncertain.

Gorkan: Nicknamed "Gork the Ork", Gorkan is a bold Orc commander who wishes nothing more than to charge into glorious battle and hack and slash at his enemies till death finally takes him. Once a disgruntled servant of the elusive "Shadows", the Orc now serves as a member of Rook's party. With the help of his unlikely new allies, he seeks to obtain revenge against his hated enemies and renew the honour of the ancient Orc race. It is likely that when he sounds the final call to battle, many of his fellow Orcs will unite under his command.
