About The Cursed
The Cursed was created by Sofi Tuckwood and Tom Foskett.
The plot was originally intended to be the outline of a fantasy novel for a writing course, and Tom's help was enlisted in brainstorming ideas for the story.Being an artist, Tom also produced concept sketches of some of the main characters, which lead to the idea of publishing the novel as a webcomic, since both creators were avid webcomic readers and had been hoping to start up a comic of their own for some time.

Background
The Cursed is set in a fictional universe, in a region commonly referred to as 'The Realm'. All humans in the realm are born with an affinity to a single element (Air, Earth, Fire or Water), which allows them limited control over that element in their immediate environment. This manifests itself in the individual's appearance, most notably in eye colour: blue eyes denote an affinity to air, brown to earth, red to fire and green to water. As with all abilities, manipulation of an element is something which improves with the right training, though the upper limit to the scope of an individual's power is determined largely by natural talent. All elementalists undergo tests at the age of eight, which place them in one of six bands or levels, a higher number signifying greater ability. The band to which an individual belongs decides their position within society, as well as their rights to education. Both the particular element and the degree of power that an individual possesses are inherited genetically from parents, and siblings sharing both parents will invariably be of the same element.
The elementalist's abilities are tied closely into every element of life, from production of food to climate control. The Realm's natural landscape is reasonably barren, and survival out in the wastes is very difficult without the mutual support of elementalists of each caste. The nearer one gets to civilised areas, the more hospitable and controlled the environment becomes; in large cities, every aspect of nature is constantly under precise control.
Social Structure
The Realm is not ruled by a single body. Rather, each elemental caste is governed internally, with each group acting in harmony with the other three to create a functional society. Due to the nature of their elements, individuals of each caste are generally suited to working in different areas. Fire elementalists value action over words, and usually make the best warriors, serving as the guardians of The Realm. Water elementalists tend to be superior thinkers, and excel in both practical and theoretical sciences. Earth elementalists are best suited to working in agriculture and production, and form the bulk of The Realm's workforce. Air elementalists are the fewest in number of the four castes, and like water elementalists they favour logic and reason; as such, they often serve as advisors, administrators, philosophers and clerics. These tendencies are not universal, and though rare, individuals are occasionally found who are suited to very different tasks than those their element would normally suggest. link title
