Bob Smithson, the world's most average man, has become a weirdness magnet. Spaceships crash into his roof, dragons perch in his yard, his attic gets infested with ninjas. He sees it through with decency, common sense, and charming thickheadedness.

The strip was originally a print comic appearing in the newsletter and magazine of the Penn State Science Fiction Society from 1993 to 1997, and the original Penn State stories form the first eight months of the webcomic's run (May 5-Dec. 28, 2006). Everything posted since then has been new material.

The strip updates on Tuesdays and Saturdays—usually around noon, Pacific Time.

Main Characters

Bob Smithson (first webcomic appearance: 5/5/06)

Bob was the world's most average man until the day he was touched by the fickle finger of fate and became a weirdness magnet. Spectacularly odd, paranormal things now happen to Bob almost daily—in particular, spaceships keep crashing into his roof.
Bob sees it all through with surprising grace, for despite his nigh infinite normalcy, he has several outstanding traits. He is very decent and kind. He's very adaptable. He has an uncommon amount of common sense, rarest of all human qualities. And he's a little too thickskulled to be bowled over by the awesome implications of the things he encounters.
Bob owns and operates a small newsstand in the suburb of Generictown.

Dr. Jean Poule (first webcomic appearance: 8/26/06)

Jean is a biologist at the local community college, pretentiously called Generictown University. She collided with Bob on the sidewalk, spilling her most valued project into Bob's jar of crunchy peanut butter, accidentally producing Molly the Peanut Butter Monster. She and Bob are currently going steady.
Jean is far more temperamental than Bob, but also perhaps a bit more astute than he is, recognizing the full far-reaching implications of the stuff he stumbles into on a daily basis while he remains securely oblivious.

Molly the Monster (first webcomic appearance: 8/31/06)

When Bob and Jean collided on the sidewalk, an experiment of Jean's got mixed with Bob's jar of crunchy peanut butter. In short order, the two combined to form a small, pink, furry creature whose first thoughts were "I think, therefore I am."
Molly (as Bob christened her) has since grown to a height of 5'8" and begun displaying a genius I.Q., reading books at lightning speed.
If Bob represents wisdom without intellect, then Molly is the reverse. She can create machines a thousand years in advance of current technology, but she is less than a year old and has the common sense (and enthusiasm) of a little girl.
Molly regards Bob and Jean as her parents. She adores them, and would like to see them to get married.

Princess Voluptua (first webcomic appearance: 6/1/06)

Voluptua ("Volly" to her friends) is heir to the throne of the local space empire. Legally, the Nemesites own Earth, since the empire was in existence long before man ever existed. They leave us alone for the most part, having set Earth aside as a nature preserve. They consider humanity part of the local wildlife.
Her sexy human form is an illusion—she's actually a giant butterfly creature. She has since become aware that the proportions of her assumed shape are not the human norm, but she hasn't corrected the error yet.
Jean fears Voluptua will come between her and Bob, although Volly & Bob both insist that is not the case, since Bob knows Volly is really a giant bug, and to Volly, Bob is a bald ape who dresses badly.
Arguably the most mature member of the cast, she is a born leader and speechmaker who does not suffer fools gladly. Her real form is very fragile—after all, it's lightweight enough for her to fly.
