Utopia's Website Utopia is a webcomic drawn and written by Damien Boyer.
The story follows the life of a young man named Kuhya who has just ended highschool. He is then forced to move out to live on his own and is stuck staying in an apartment with a handful of strange yet interesting people. One of which being his long time online love interest. While everything seems well, things take a turn for the worst. The power of online relationships versus real life relationships clash.
Utopia can be called Romance/Comedy, but it's not very funny. It also has very serious themes such as rape in it.
Words from the author
Utopia was a cancelled since May 4th 2005, but now I am motivated to pick it up again and run with it. So I hope you all will become readers. It will all be worth it if I catch the hearts of just a few people... and yes, I mean that! Utopia has come to another standstill, but I am still alive. I'm redoing the first two pages. My academic life is falling apart, so again, updates will be slow. Also, I must redo the site.
Characters
Well if there's anything that makes me so dedicated to Utopia it's the characters. They may not have the best names in the world, but they're all mine. That being said, I'd like to keep myself under the impression that they're all original... With exception to few. So, I'd like you to meet the cast from the beginning of the story.
- Kuhya - the lead male character. He also follows all the cliches... what? It's what people expect. Don't look at me like that. He's a lonely young man with dark hair and glasses who obsesses over anime, games, and manga. He has very few friends, but those who are his friends are but last resorts when he has nothing else to do regarding his anime and games. He has a twin sister named Mahya.
HIT - Coffee
MISS - Heights
- Mahya - Kuhya's twin sister. Though born just a few minutes before Kuhya, she babysits him and is Kuhya's spine when he goes out in the world on his own. She doesn't have very much money, but she sacrifices just about every coin she has on his well being. But, her good deeds can only go on for so long. Mahya is energetic with a long black ponytail and a face nobody would ever forget.
HIT - Alcoholic beverages
MISS - Non-alcoholic beverages
- Raii - Mahya's ex-girlfriend and head-owner-person-thing of the apartment Kuhya stays at. She is a busty towering half-breed who answers to nobody. Regardless, she is a nice person and lends Kuhya a hand in his struggle to find a job. She also is the mother-figure to everybody, including her boyfriend, Riko.
HIT - Ricecakes
MISS - Cigarettes
- Riko - Raii's boyfriend and eventual close pal to Kuhya. Though starting out as the "bad guy" who denies Kuhya access to electricity in the apartment without a job, he makes a very valuable and dependant friend. Riko is a tall sensual young man who acts as a father figure to the rest of the people of the apartment, but is still lectured by Raii on a regular basis.
HIT - Balconies
MISS - Pidgeons
- Terre - A close friend of Raii's, but has never been involved with her in a relationship (She's not bisexual). Terre is a blond girl who seldomly smiles. She takes an interest in Kuhya as soon as he moves in, but gives off the wrong first impression. Terre is deaf due to a disease she caught and will continue to lose her hearing throughout the story. Her boyfriend, Gil, helps her during her tough time by providing her with all the money she needs to stay in the apartment and pay for her hearing aid and medication.
HIT - Music
MISS - iPod
- Gil - Terre's boyfriend. Though not a roommate, a very important character. Though Gil provides Terre with many of the material things in life, he hardly finds the time to speak to her. He often lets his insecurities get the best of him and he always suspects Kuhya of shady doings. The idea of Kuhya living in the same apartment as Terre to his is a threat and he aims to eliminate that threat. Gil has long red hair with crazy bangs.
HIT - Cars
MISS - Dirty rooms
- Mineriva - The single most detatched character. Mineriva is one of the people staying in the apartment, but she chooses not to converse with anybody. Upon returning home from wherever she spends her days, she goes straight to her room to do lord-knows-what. Riko often makes jokes about Mineriva killing people in her room and hiding the bodies, but he does not know how close to the truth he may be. Later on, she reveals more of herself to Kuhya in the literal and non-literal sense and takes a genuine interest in him.
HIT - Not people
MISS - People
- Nina - Terre's little sister. She does not make many appearances, but plays a vital role in revealing the story of Terre. She later becomes a main character when she gets older and moves into the apartment with everybody else.
HIT - Plushies
MISS - Cats
History
Utopia goes back far. Probably as far back as year 2000. I first started Utopia as an offline comic. I drew several title pages and Raii was the first character. Terre is also an old character, but did not exist in the world of Utopia until later on when characters such as Kuhya were added. Terre goes back to an older webcomic I was working on and has went through MANY CHANGES. Year 2005, I finally decided I wanted to make the story Utopia open to the public, so I signed up on Comic Genesis (Then called Keenspace). The verification email took a while, but boy was it worth it! Sadly, I simply did not update the site... and to make things worse, I had/have no skill at making websites. But now it's Year 2006. Soon I plan to have a friend remake the site so it looks pretty and update regularly. Keep an eye out for new pages, if you want. You don't have to. Thank you for reading if you've sat through this whole thing.
