This page was created to host the 2006 rules (Originally drafted by Faub), and to allow forumites to easily revise them as needed.

- Players each draw 7 cards from his/her deck.
- If no artist cards are drawn, the hand is a Mulligan and the deck may be reshuffled and 7 cards redrawn.
- The player may put one artist from his/her hand into play for free, no matter what the cost of that artist might be.
- Player roll dice, rock-paper-scissors, wrestle or whatever to determine the first player. Play continues to the left.
Game Play
- Untap all tapped artists.
- Draw a card.
- Play artists and modifiers.
- Play an event.
- Jam.

- The player declares that s/he quits.
End of Game Conditions

- Only one player is still in the game.
- Players agree to end the game.
If the game ends with more than one player having active artists, the player with the most readers wins.
Types of Cards
Artist Cards
Artists have 5 attributes:
- Cost
- The number of readers a player must control to be able to play the artist.
- Artists have a cost to be played. If the player has as many readers in play (on any artist) as the cost of the artist, the player may play the new artist. A player cannot play artists with a total cost greater than his/her number of readers in a single turn. The new artists may be played on the next turn.
- If an artist is stolen or leaves play, any readers played on the artist go with him/her.
- Skill
- determines an artist's raw ability to win a contest. Skill may be modified by actions or modifiers.
- Determination
- is the artist's determination to keep going with his/her comic. An artist with 0 determination is frozen.
- Comic Rating
- (G, PG, 14, M, NC17) This affects how certain cards may be played on this artist.
- Genre
- This affects how certain cards may be played on this artist. Genre list:
- Fantasy
- Set in a world where magic holds sway, technology is hard to come by and not commonplace, or otherwise where magical events take place. Elves and pixies and the like frolick about while orcs and goblins beat their wardrums at the gates of civilization. Typically, the setting is medieval, but not always.
- Chibi
- This character comes from a world where by complete chance everyone is at least half the normal stature. Chibis are known for their cuteness and damn near indestructability. They also frequently lack fingers, and use hammerspace.
- Anthro(pomorphic)
- Set in a world where anthropomorphic animals are either the only game around or at least a normal sight around the grocery store and movie theater. Fur and whiskers abound, and many of these critters may have claws and other natural weapons as well.
- Manga
- Some people will say it's not really manga unless you're Japanese, but you know better. This is set in a world where the Laws of Anime are also the law of the land. People bleed giant sweatdrops from the sides of their heads when they're nervous, the longer it takes to charge your attack the more ridiculously powerful it is, and no matter how many power levels you have or how big your eyes are, there's always someone with more and bigger.
- None
- Either the character/item/whatever doesn't easily fit into one of the other existing genres, or it simply defies placement in a genre altogether.
- Porn
- Set in a world where getting it on is the most important thing on everyone's mind, ranging from silly little butt-spankings when no one else is looking to full on hardcore uncensored raunchy ugly-bumpin' in the middle of the office.
- Real Life
- Set in more or less a realistic world. The characters may stretch the boundries a bit, but overall the general effect is a slice of life from our own modern day. The characters hold down jobs, pay rent on their apartments, and try to suss their way in and out of their day-to-day activities.
- Romance
- Awww . . . a setting wherein the characters' main preoccupation is with love and their relationships with others. There's rarely any actual physical conflict on the scale of some of the other genres, but sometimes hateful words driven like daggers into your loved one's heart can be the most potent weapon of all. Many angst-ridden comics would fall into this genre.
- Science-Fiction
- Set in a world where techonology of a type more sophisticated than that of the modern world is common. Modes of travel would include things like hovercars and FTL spacecraft. Cybernetic enhancements may be found, as well as computers capable of sentience. Think futuristic.
Events
When an event card is played the player determines which of his/her untapped artists shall be attending the event and taps them. All other players may then choose to have artists attend the event. Certain events may exclude artists with certain comic ratings or attributes or give bonuses to those artists.
The player with the highest modified skill attending the event wins the event.
Events count for a certain number of readers and may have other effects such as +1 determination. The winning player may play the event card on any artist card that attended the event.
Actions
Actions may be played at any time. Actions can modify artist stats temporarily, untap artists, cause an artist to go on hiatus, remove an artist from the game, steal readers, steal artists, etc. They are intended to even out contents and make the game more interesting.
Modifiers
Modifiers are permanent modifiers that may be applied to an artist. Certain modifiers will have modifier types. This means that only one modifier of this type may be played on a given artist. For example, 3x/week updates (+1 determination) is an update schedule card. You cannot play the 1x/week updates card on this artist without first discarding the 3x/week updates card.
There is no cost to playing a modifier card, however, modifier cards must be played strategically to prevent them from being discarded uselessly.
Game Play
Untapping Artists
Tapping is similar to Magic the Gathering in that, an artist can only be allocated for a specific purpose such as a Jam or Event. If an artist is attending an event, s/he cannot participate in a Jam.
All artists are untapped at the beginning of the player's turn.
Drawing a card
The player may draw one card at the beginning of his/her turn. There is no limit to the number of cards in hand. Action cards may allow players to draw extra cards or discard cards already in hand.
If a card cannot be drawn for any reason, the game ends.
Artists and Modifiers
After the initial draw, the player may play any artists and modifiers in his/her hand given the restraints of the cards in play.
The cost of the artists put into play cannot be greater than the total number of readers the player has in play. If a player has 0 readers, the player may not play any artists.
Modifiers may be played on any artist in play. This includes other players' artists.
Events and Readers
Events are the only way to add new readers into play.
When an event is played, no more artists or modifiers may be played. If no event is played, this phase is skipped.
There are two types of events: contested and uncontested. An event is contested unless it has "Uncontested event" as an ability. Uncontested events are worth less, but the player who played the event gets to keep it. Contested events must be fought for and are worth more.
The player who played the event may choose to have any number of artists attend the event. These artists are tapped to show they have attended the event. Then the player to his/her left chooses artists to attend the event, tapping the artists accordingly. The highest total skill wins the event and may play the event card on any one artist. If there is no clear winner, the player who played the event may choose the winner.
If any card steals a reader, it steals the whole card. If a card is worth more than one reader, it steals them all, including any bonuses attached. Unless stated, the player who loses the reader card may choose which card to give up.
Jam
A player may then Jam with any untapped artists. The player picks an opponent to jam against and taps any artists who will participate in the jam. The rules work the same as a contested event, but only between the player and his/her chosen opponent. The winner may take one reader from the loser.
Artist Conditions
- Active
- The artist is untapped and unfrozen.
- Tapped
- The artist is attending an event or participating in a jam and cannot be used again until next turn.
"Hiatus" and "Comic Ends" are examples of cards that would freeze an artist. If all artists are frozen, the player is out of the game.
- Frozen
- If an Artist is is frozen, s/he cannot participate in Events/Jams or be tapped to perform abilities. An artist is frozen when their determination is 0 or less, or a card is played that freezes them.
Glossary
Definitions of terms.
- Duration X
- This card comes into play with X "Duration" counters on it. At the beginning of each turn, remove a duration counter. If you cannot, send this card to the trashbin.
- Uncontested Event
- Uncontested events are not up for grabs to the artist with the highest skill. Usually the player playing the event gets to chose which artist it will affect. If a specific Uncontested Event says otherwise, follow the card text. An event is Uncontested if the first line of text on the card is "Uncontested Event"
Proposed Amendments
Pending
Here are rules that forumites have suggested and are currently under consideration.
- An additional end-of-game condition or way to win the game Gengar003
- Jams should be based off Determination + 1/2 skill, not just full skill. Laemkral
- Remove "Chibi" and "Porn" Genres avatar007
- Change the "Porn" Genre to "Adult", or "NSFW", since it encompasses more than just 'porn'. KittyKatBlack
Resolved
Change "Furry" Genre to "Anthropomorphic" and update the description accordingly avatar007ChangedAdd wording to the rules stating that all events are assumed to be contested events unless the card specifically says otherwise by, for example, having the first line of text be "Uncontested Event" Gengar003(Already changed)
- Add the term "Duration" into the rule glossary, like so:
- Duration X
- This card comes into play with X "Duration" counters on it. At the beginning of each turn, remove a duration counter. If you cannot, send this card to the trashbin. Gengar003
Added
Card Creation Guidelines
For event cards, if you want an event to be uncontested, have the first line be "Uncontested Event"
For modifier cards, have the first line be (Type) Modifier. (i.e. "Health Modifier")
Gengar003 wrote an online card-generator and database storage system for the cards.
