What is it?

Located on esper.net at #keenspace, the Keenspace chat is where both creators and fans of webcomics can get together and talk.

It was founded in January 2004 by TheGoobla, and is mostly maintained by Kisai, Mercury Hat and RobinPierce.

Possible questions/answers

  • Half of the chatroom just logged off en masse! What the heck just happened?!
-Don't freak out if it appears all/half of the chat has logged off, this is known as a netsplit and it happens every so often. Net swears he has nothing to do with these, but suspicion still remains high...
  • Why is was everyone opped?
-Back when there weren't nearly so many chatters, Kisai opped all the non-ops because that is the policy of all other channels she has been part of... and it just sort of stuck with us ever since. Though be warned that if you abuse your op powers, other people will keep you in check. The community aspect of Keenspace/ComicGenesis keeps people from power tripping. This 'was' the case, up until June 07 when Kisai, RobinPierce, and Mercury Hat decided there were far too many people abusing the privilege. #keenspace has since returned to having a minimum number of ops in the room.


-Birdie was traditionally not opped as he doesn't like it.

  • Who's actually in charge of this room?
-The listed founder of the chat is Kisai who also happens to be one of the admins on Comic Genesis and the two super ops are Mercury Hat and RobinPierce. The chat was initially started by Goobla who has since disappeared. The auto-ops are K-Dawg, Derenge, War, Rkolter, CJ Burgandy, and Legostar, Pimpette, ahaugen, Vorticus, and The Neko.
  • What's up with all these backrubs? Is Vorticus using some kind of bot?

-Quite possibly!
  • Can you give me ops?
-Once you've proven that you're not a threat to the flow of the room (not a troll) someone will give you opps status. No, probably not. Writhe in mediocrity, plebe.
  • ...Can you give me +v? :D
-I'm guessing, "no."
  • Why the hell isn't Mr.Bob an auto-op?
-Hmm. That's a darn good question.
  • Wait, I thought you guys are Comic Genesis, why is the chat #keenspace?
-Yes, but because of a fanatical sense of nostalgia, no one goes to #comicgenesis, which does exist.
