Kisai To-do List
From CGWiki
Nothing on here is gauranteed, however this list is provided as a reminder list since Kisai will not have the time for everything.
Main server (Thought process, viability is possible within 1yr): - Break up automations, instead of /d for comics, define /d , sort order (numeric, alphanumeric, sha1 hash, etc.) This would allow sub galleries/fanart.
Siteadmin (anyserver, Thought process, viability is possible within 1yr) - Complete php rewrite (before christmas?) - Define fan system for fanart see breaking up automations, this would allow users to "submit" fanart, and the owner of the comic can approve what art appears on their site. This could be a special automation since a thumbnailer is required... or maybe add thumbnail gallery as an alternative to calender when no calender exists? - mandate that all comics have 88x31 button, 200x40, 468x60 standard, 786x90 billboard vertical bar banners along with 150x300 newsbox and 60x60 pogs. If a banner is missing then whatever advertisement it is used for will not be listed (ie guide). Each banner is currently used in one or two systems right now. 88x31 in SiteadminPHP, 468x60 in SiteadminPerl/GuidePerl, 150x300 in newsboxPHP. - Change banner manager to require an upload as opposed to the current "tell me where it is on your site", This was designed before we has a second server and the current method works too well.
Newsbox (rec'd forum server, viability is possible within 1yr) - Change newsbox system, (blocked by siteadmin completion), move newsbox images to forum server and delete current system. Updates add/delete themselves from newsbox cache. This differs from the current where ALL comics are in the cache and a select by rand is done with parameters for 7 days. - Ghastlys site seems to be pulling blank on the newsbox?
Forums (viability is possible within 1yr): Automate forum creation via siteadmin. The problem here is getting pre-existing forums from having colisions. Might need use the same check used for adding a ftp account to siteadmin to add the forum to a comic. Or maybe just abandon per-comic forums and just let people create any forums they damn well please. The problem thereby being locking and forum damage. Recommend working around table lock problem by creating separate database for new forums create via new tool and advise that the old forum will be deleted if a new forum is created (resulting in more than one forum per comic), in theory a forum can be migrated once on the same database, but not back. I had a tool for this in 2002 that used a flatfile database, but never rolled it out because it was too dangerous. Assume people are curious and would test it anyways.
CGWiki (easy, but might break things): Improve authentication so that it pulls the email from the forum account. Talk pages are redundant with forums and should only be used for comments/recommendations about a page (deletion, copyright infringement, etc)
Global: Unified theme accross main page, guide, and wiki. Wiki might be harder.
Guide: Import guide data to CGWiki Move guide to forum server, use new siteadmin banner system. Add option for external/mirror links Check for drunkduck/webcomicnation mirrors specificly, ComicGenesis is X.comicgenesis.com but drunkduck is drunkduck.com/X which might cause search spiders to assume that the comics are all drunkduck instead of separate.
Misc:
Setup moderators for CGWiki, earning it.
Nag nate for another server.
Mallet people for having large sigs.
Have the forum rules in the Wiki maybe?
