Newsbox

Summary

The Newsbox (or newshack) is an important promotional tool that circulates advertisements for people's comics on other people's sites. It only displayes recently updated comics and is, well, rather nice really. Code for the current newsbox is written by Kisai.

Technical

The Newsbox works by taking 150x300px images that have been set up in the Comic Genesis siteadmin by each comic's author and randomly displaying them on the sites that have the code for the newsbox on their page. The Newsbox will only show ads on a page that are at or below the rating of the comic on that page. The tag for the newsbox is ***newsbox***.

It's considered polite to keep the image file size under 50kb, but that doesn't appear to be a hard, fast rule. Over 100kb would definitely be pushing it, though. To add an image to the newsbox rotation, login to siteadmin and click the Promo/Banner/Newsbox/Pog/Chan images link. Simply upload the file and wait for approval. History

The current newsbox is based an old Keenspace newsbox that was active in 2001.

The old newsbox was based on the Keenspot newsbox. The KeenSpot newsbox is set on a schedule, unlike the KeenSpace newsbox.
