Homoerotica featuring males. The term is Japanese, and translates as "boy love" (Note: This term, while still widely used in the U.S. and other countries, has actually become outdated in Japan. In its nation of origin, it is now associated with pedophilia). It is the less extreme / more romantic version of the term Yaoi.

Graphic sex is very rarely depicted in a story deemed "shonen-ai," though it does sometimes happen. More often then not, shonen-ai is fluff- lots of plot, little hooch.
