Luprand is possibly one of the following:

• A college student named Simon, majoring in communications, with an assortment of anxiety, self-esteem, literality, and other various issues. Somewhat overweight, far too likely to take sarcasm seriously, get angry about the wrong things, and generally upset all the wrong people at the wrong time - and if that's not bad enough, he's Mormon, too. Has become severely reclusive, not wanting to expose the world to all of his defects anymore.

• The cartoonist behind (so far) two comics: NeTrek (There is no emoticon sufficient), a rather lackluster comic that managed to linger on for almost three years before Luprand put it out of its misery; and Torio, a semi-tag-team comic in which he attempts to hide his sociopolitical views behind lame attempts at humor.

• Unofficial wet blanket of the then-Keenspace forums. Known originally for being a general whiner and socially inept forum newbie under the handle "netrek," he changed handles after the forum crash and discovered that by using a puppy avatar, he could get away with his whining, unpopular opinions, and unfunny comments because the adorable picture under his name distracted people from what he was actually saying. Once more political and religious arguments broke out in the Off-topic forum, though, he revealed himself for what he was once again, flaming left and right, making biting remarks about others' beliefs and opinions, and generally getting overwhelmingly angry about minor issues. This, combined with ambiguity over what he'd be doing over the summer of 2005, led to him leaving the forums and good riddance to him.

• The forums' former pet puppy, a short little anthropomorphic German shepherd dog. Originally a non-morphic wolf puppy, no one's quite sure when he became domesticated, humanoid, and presbyopic, but somehow he ended up standing on two feet, wearing clothes, and needing bifocals to see. During the Keenspace Revolution, Luprand and his assistant Komiyan ended up as the neutral force, administrating the Keenspace chapter of the Red Cross (a job that mostly involved draining the blood from anyone they could find). After a certain point, a joke from RKolter turned into a running gag about Luprand randomly ending up pregnant - through non-sexual means and often without him being aware.

• A former presence in #keenspace chat, showing up at random times to complain about how bad his comic is without actually trying to improve anything. Very self-centered and grubbing for attention, he proves to be quite the bother until he eventually depresses himself enough to have to leave before he goes completely emo and gets kicked for being a total nuisance. On each departure, he leaves his signature line about returning to the Stupid Puppy Corner; his actual conversations with other people rarely have more substance than hugging people, giving them cookies, or wagging his tail when people scratch him behind the ears.
