The World of "13th Labour"
The history of this alternate universe is first known to deviate from our Earth when Theodorus of Cyrene took dictation from Socrates in 400 BCE. The most notable result of this document: Alexander the Great was not assassinated until twenty years later than in this universe. A significant current difference is the existence of California (with slightly different borders), as an independent nation under a constitutional monarchy headed by King Rudolph Valentino III.
The available genetic evidence, specifically the colors humans come in, suggests a different solar spectrum, as well.
Indira Pillan
This bizarre weather pattern has recently been causing havoc with biological and post-bio systems lately. The result? A bunch of ghosts and people changing into different animals. It's literally raining cats and dogs!
Characters
Vivian
Vivian Bain is a priestess of Hera, one woman lost in a large family whose promised land has become absorbed into LA suburbs. The weather has not caused much difference.
Florence
Florence Magus lives in the suburbs, only child of a single mother, now trying to make a life as a high school teacher while making payments on horse and armor for the local chapter of the SCA. Because of the weather, she has made a breakthrough in the sorcery side of sword and sorcery.
Sam
Sam Sciuhen wants to be an astronaut in three years. He has the brains, but maybe not the brawn. So far, the weather has only changed his rocket launches and the focus of his research, but if he keeps meddling, that may soon change.
Glenn
The Indira Pillan has turned Glenn Oltero into a merman. This friendly young man takes much time out of his busy college schedule to combat The Grandma, visit exotic countries, and meet new and interesting people. It's a surprise he passes any classes.
Jordan
Jordan Van Hayes is Glenn's cousin. She grew up with him and is trying to be a nice, normal, modern-day working woman. She'd have made a good start if not for her family and her nightmares. The weather is so far making her irritable.
Uri
Uri Van Hayes was the foremost architect in the world, but she lost even the right to wait tables when the Indira Pillan turned her into a slimy, non-mammalian, tentacle-and-tubular blob.
The Grandma
Ex-CIB (California Intelligence Bureau) director code-named "The Grandma" has not changed her habits since being forced to resign in disgrace, although she must now concentrate her efforts for social change on the shady side of the law. She's also Glenn, Jordan, and Uri's grandmother.
