Plot

Modern Nights is about various vampires and their activities in the city of Elk Grove. In order to avoid the chaos of being hunted and killed, various types of vampires have sought leadership throughout the centuries, and eventually different "governments" formed, called sects. Unlike mortals, whose governments are based upon country, vampires know the governmental state of a city mainly by rumor. In slightly more orderly governments there may be a list of which city is under their control. In more chaotic sects, you can only hope that the rumors are right.

Spead across the world are different types of vampires, all determined by their "parentage" or by their "inheritance." Through the centuries different groups have gained different abilities, some completely unique to the parentage. A particular lineage is a clan or bloodline. The inheritance is what they call disciplines.

The Camarilla
The Camarilla is essentially an oligarchy (government ruled by the few). While there is a higher government which creates the laws, very little do they make themselves known. If a representative drops by a city, it could be to converse or to convey a message. If an Archon shows up, the city is in a dire situation. If anyone more than that makes an appearance, the people of the city may not be long for the world. Each city is expected to uphold the laws of the Camarilla so long as they wish to remain a part of it. Some remain with the Camarilla because of propaganda that they are the "good guys." Some remain for hope of power. Some are forced to remain due to their parentage. Camarilla vampires refer to themselves as Kindred.

The Sabbat
Also often spoken of as evil or the "bad guys," the Sabbat have a tendency to be given a bad name. These Socialists are also organized by a higher rulership which is seldom seen or heard from. One thing is known though: they are rarely infiltrated or betrayed. The Sabbat host a load of secrets. Rumors abound that they are like a large cult, performing sacrifices and shedding blood for fun. Truthfully, if they were so destructive, than surely the few humans imbued enough to hunt them would have by now. But still the rumor remains. The one thing that is known about them is that they create hoards of other vampires that are seen as disposable. This cannon fodder has been the largest problem for the Camarilla, having been at war with them since the dawn of time, who value the life of any vampire created (to a certain extent, of course).

Anarchs
Very little is known about the Anarchs, except that it seems to have originated in the modern United States. They currently have a non-aggression pact with the Camerilla, which is an indicator to some sort of grander leadership than whoever currently leads the city. Traversing into any Anarch city one could find any sort of setup among the leaders. Only one thing is common among them: all vampires here share an ideal of liberalism.

Independants
There are others out there who are not part of any government, for any reason. One of the main reasons is that you rarely dismember yourself from one of them without having your head dismembered from you.

Series: Armand and Slade

Armand tends to be non-traditional, mischievious, and seductive. In a city created of the Camarilla, this does not tend to be a good thing. Especially when one prefers not to reveal his parentage. Others consider him powerful, but they have no estimation as to how powerful until he and Slade meet for the first time in years. Armand is Independant.

Slade is a representative of the Camarilla higher council, originally attending the city to check on the Tremere, of which he is a Lord. However, the city has had so many problems that he finds himself returning for other reasons. Many have cause to speculate as to how such a man holds high regard, and perhaps even respect for Armand.

Volume One: Armand

Chapters

Chapter One: Introduction
Armand walks approaches the gathering place for the fair... well, tiny city of Elk Grove. The city has had it's fair amount of trouble so far, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. As the city gets ready for their gather, Armand's mischief ends up bringing about a fair amount of commotion.

Armand and Slade

Major Characters

CharactersAgeImageDescription
Armand2000+ years-Armand is a vampire of unworldly beauty. He often claims that he was as such before becoming a vampire, but few believe him. There are many ways for a vampire to improve his or her appearance, and such things are often expected. Armand is very rarely seen without some form of old-style clothing. Avoiding his Roman past, his style leans towards a modern Victorian. However, he never likes to get his good clothes dirty.
Slade???-Slade's appearance doesn't seem to differ much from Armand's, though he does not match Armand's beauty. His appearance is considerably more modern, often seen in a business suit with a blue silk tie. His demeanor tends to be rather calm and serious, and when he smiles you can be assured it is not one of light-heartedness or glee. Actually, not even Armand can be sure that he ever smiles. It always seems to be some form of smirk.

Minor Characters

CharactersAgeImageDescription
Val and Kin~600 years-Val and Kin are twins, created around 600 years ago by Armand. However, there are only vague memories of this, as Armand left early in their childhood. In adulthood, the twins grew further and further apart. Kin became more lonesome and often studied books left behind by Armand, as well as notes of their creation. Val turned primarily to nature, and the blessings of life around him. The two parted ways and were soon turned by vampires of seperate lineage. When Val found Kin once more, little remained of his humanity, and perhaps of his mind.
Kellein Lorenssith~670 years-Born early in the Ming Dynasty of China, Kellein tells stories of a brutal past. In trying to gain power within the city, she decides to seduce Val, who is Sheriff, the law enforcer to the Prince. However, hearing his stories and sharing her own, she realizes that the chance to regain a family has arrived. Dedication and duty to the city could keep her dreams from coming true.
Petrov???-Petrov, for lack of better term, is a bear. His height isn't necessarily impressive, but his width to match, is.
Seth???-"Child" to Petrov, Seth wasn't the most renowned vampire in the city, but he was at least known. Somewhat liked. However, his weakness in disliking to be touched makes him a fun toy for Armand... to an extent.
Craig Cyrus200-250 years-One of the few that associates with the Republic, Craig has a certain disregard for authority. However, this does not stop him from being under Kellein's leadership and tutelage to protect the city. He is young, compared to many of the other vampires which inhabit the city, but he gives his all.
Sapphire???-Sapphire is the current leader of the city, gained by inheriting it from the previous leader. She is witty and manipulative, loved by all. Her higher position among the Vigma also instills a certain amount of fear in those who respect the positions more than the people.
Edward William Smith???-Description to come.
Anon???-Description to come.
Alex Johnson~1600 years-Once a dedicated member of the city, he left Princedom behind to primarily watch and deal with the idiocies of younger members. He grows weary of his existance and finds himself creating a sort of retirement.
Havelock Monroe???-Description to come.
Newasia23 years-Description to come.
