Monkey is a comic strip that has been around for quite some time. It is the creation of Lynda Naclerio, a self-proclaimed person who appears to have more time on her hands than she actually does.

The comic

Originally a roughly-drawn commentary on the author's life, Monkey has evolved into a sitcom starring two bachelor assassin cats, played by real-life cats; a singing, hunting sheepdog played by The Woman, a mysterious dog who was born at the 1994 Woodstock festival; a spider, who has managed to not die for over two years; a playboy ghost cat, who pops in time to time for gratuitious sexiness; and a human, who leads a life of heckling, rage and music--much like the love child of Andy Rooney and Jaye P. Morgan.

Recurring themes

Monkey strips, while seemingly random in storyline, occasionally tell stories about the main characters' histories. Music, television, book and movie references abound, as does acid reflux.

15 minutes of fame

The strip gained a record amount of readers in April of 2005 with the Galactic Idol storyline, which lampooned both the popular television show and the Star Wars saga.

Controversy

While there are people who feel the art style is off-putting and humor lacking, the author relies on the possibility that somewhere out there, someone gets it and takes solace in the fact that her strip is still updated three times a week, outliving many other fledging webcomics.
