On the One Road to Ruin is a webcomic written and drawn by Cullen M. M. Waters. It is a semi-comedic, semi-serious story about the adventurers Krevan Arlsen and the Wizard Dredmor as they try (and fail) to prove to their world (Nourth) that they are heroes.

Plot Overview

The Tower of Seph-Hathi and Other Tales

While it starts with a series of seemingly unconnected events, Krevan and Dredmor find themselves in worse and worse situations. By the time either one even considers retiring as adventurers, they are already well over their heads in ever increasingly dangerous (and absurd) situations.

Stories

The Tower of Seph-Hathi

Hoping to help their friend, Aud Fellow, Krevan Arlsen and Dredmor invade the Tower of Seph-Hathi in order to retrieve the priceless Pack Ederm Ruby. Unfortunately, the place is a death trap. Worse, they aren't the only ones with designs on the Ruby...

Major Players

Character First Appearance Biography
Krevan Arlsen
First Story:
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
Krevan Arlsen is the son of two of the greatest heroes Nourth has ever seen: Wild Tremas and Hester. The world thought he would live up to their standard . Instead, he has proved to have as much cowardice as his parents have bravery.

But is that the case? While he has shown himself to be inept, he has survived where the more competent have died. Coupled that with a (slight) moral code, and he might well be a diamond in the rough. Right?

Nah.

Dredmor
First Story:
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
Unlike Krevan, Dredmor has been a disappointment since he was nine. He is considered the world's most inept Wizard. His miscast spells have been known to level cities, raise the dead, or make a decent loaf of bread, depending on the capricious whim of whatever curse or block holds him. His continued existence depends on equal parts luck and Krevan's good will.

Some think he is a fool, that he is incompetent. Know that this is not the case. Every spell he cast is perfect in every way. In every way. They only seldom turn out the way they should . And no one knows why.

Sissy
First Story:
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
A biography of Sissy might not ever be possible. She is either a sentient sword or something else entirely.

When Krevan was a lonely child, Sissy came and kept him company. As an adult, he summons her via his sword, Sweet Dreamer, to help him on his jobs. Her wisdom has kept him alive on more than one occasion.

But is Sissy the sweet person she appears to be, or a Vengeful Spirit bent on some horrible revenge? Even Krevan isn't sure. Perhaps one day he will have to pay for all she has done for him...

Aud Fellow
First Story:
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
Aud Fellow is one of the best thieves in Nothem if not all of Nourth. To list her accomplishments is beyond the scope of this little space. Suffice to say, she is a Hero in her own right, despite her relative youth.

Technically she is more Krevan's friend than Dredmor's. Still, she considers both to be true companions and will help them out if she can.

Oh, and she thinks she's male. Literally. Little things like being told and possessing a fully functional female body haven't clued her in. Wonder what will?

Hester Arlsen
Presence Felt:
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
If you aren't afraid of Hester Arlsen, it's only because you don't know her. Even if she wasn't one of the most powerful Wizards in all Nourth, she still would be dangerous. A craftier mind has yet to be found. Her spy network rivals that of the Sisterhood of the Beautiful Dreamer. She has toppled kingdoms with a single word. Combined that level of craft with being gifted in the arcane, and watch out.

Hester Arlesn is the Wife of Wild Tremas and mother to Krevan. It is said that she is out to destroy both of them. That's how bad she is. What kind of mother would harm her own son?

Look, pretend you didn't read this. Pretend you don't know her name. In fact, never mention her name at all. It might draw her Eyes upon you. And if she is smiling... not even the Endless Heavens can save you...

Etain
First Story (as Larva):
The Tower of Seph-Hathi
Etain (Hurray!) doesn't have a big role yet (Boo!) but she really will very soon (hurry up already!). You're gonna love her (Yes!)!

Right now Etain doesn't do much (Boo!). All she wants to do is hunt down and each all of her siblings (hongry!). In fact, she's probably eating one even as we speak (Yum!).

Crunch... Crunch... Crunch...

Minor Players

Character First AppearanceBiography
